Significance of Shab E Barat in Quran and Hadith

Significance of Shab E Barat in Quran and Hadith are discussed in the month of Shaban. There are many traditions for the 15th Night of Shaban. Such as in Pakistan it is celebrated by worshipping, Naatiya Mehfil's and Lightning of Mosques which they Celebrate as Shab E Barat.

There are many different opinions in regards of Celebration of Shab E Baraat or 15th Night of Shaban. Following lines shows the opinion of both school of thoughts.

The first School of thought is that, the Significane of Shab E Barat cannot be proved by the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) and the Quran, therefore the Night of 15th Shabaan or Shab-E-Baraat is actually a Bidah. so lets first read that Verse then we move forward.

Verily, We have sent it (this Quran) down in the night of Al-Qadr.(97:1)
First School of thought refers this Verse of Surah Al-Qadr with Shab-E-Baraat, but this verse is completely about the night when Allah Subhan Wa Ta'Ala bestowed or Befall Quran on the Night of Power in the month of Ramadan.

So this School of thought believes that Shab E Barat is a night mistakenly celebrated by the Muslims, and that's why everything they do is called as "Bidah".

The second school of thought is this, that 15th Shaban is one of the most sacred nights in the islamic year. As of this school of thought there is a significance or evidance of Celebration of Shab E Baraat in the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) that refers them to offer prayers on this sacred night to fulfill the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Hadith which this School of Thought Quote is the Hadith Naratted by Hazrat Ali (RA) in which He tells that Prophet Muhammad PBUH said:

Hadith About Shab-E-Barat in English

When it is the fifteenth night of Shaban observe prayer during the night and observe fast during the day; for Allah descends to the heaven of the world as the sun sets ans says: Is there anyone to seek forgiveness so that I should forgive him? Is there anyone to seek sustenance so that I should provide him? Is there anyone in trouble so that I may relieve him? and son on and so forth, until the dawn breaks. (Ibn Majah)

With reference to this Hadith, people refers to celebrate the 15th of Shaban as a night of blessings by the Almight Allah, as it says that Allah Subhan Wa Ta'Ala comes to earthly sky and calls mankind to turn to him and ask if is there anyone who seek forgiveness, is there anyone who wished anything and I can grant him what he wanted in the life. So they say that it is the night of blessings in which when everyone should pray and on the day they may observe fast during the day of 15th Shaban.

So this school of thought put forwards this Hadees about Shab E Barat pertaining to their celebration of 15th Shaban or Shab E Baraat. Therefore they stay awake and Pray different Prayers of Nawafil of Shab E Barat to earn greater reward from Allah and seek forgiveness for Allah. In the Day they fast and visit the graveyard and supplicate for forgiveness of those who passed away.

Conclusion:

While concluding this Post and two school of thoughts, we must mention this that we have went through a research on both the School of thoughts before mentioning them so we wrote what we found. We have not found any significance of Shab E Barat in Quran. People may be asking that Should we Celebrate Shab E Barat and observe fast or not then they have both the school of thoughts they should read and think and come to the conclusion of whether they should celebrate or perform what others say or not. No one should try forcing their opinion on others. If anyone is celebrating by Prayers then we are no one to say that this is Bidah, but celebrating by wrong means like a Parties is really bad.
